What would you like to know about Power Jam Productions? We could give you a little background story. Officially, we were established in 1985  by founder, Joe Hakim. But it didn’t start there.

Although it became “Power Jam Productions” officially in 1985 while Joe was a freshman at Luther College, Joe had started early as a first time DJ in 7th grade for a junior high dance. Using those cassette mixtapes he started out “pushing play” thanks to his dad getting him a new stereo system for Christmas. At that first dance he didn’t get booed out and he got those kids dancing, (plus it helped he was volunteering for free!) (smile) After that he went on to play at other school dances including senior prom. One of his favorite quotes from a classmate was “You have to stop playing such good music. You’re wearing us out!”

After getting his DJ fingers in motion at those school dances in McGregor, he moved to Decorah after graduation. He went to Luther College in 1985. While at Luther, he played for school dances in the lower basement level of the Luther student center, appropriately named “Dantes”. Later, he worked at the local roller rink for their teen dances.

During his early years at Luther, Joe began a residency at a Prairie duChien Wisconsin establishment, the Schooner Bar (lately known as City Sounds). The Schooner Bar was a biker favorite meeting place where a lot of hair band rock was played (it was the 80’s you know). He played there every Friday and Saturday night for over a year. During this time he began to get asked to play at weddings and other events. From those weddings and other events, the good word spread.

Over the last 38 years, Joe and his interactive entertainment specialists at Power Jam Productions have brought parties to life all over the Northeast Iowa region and surrounding states including Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois. Our company has entertained at more than 2000 events in the region! We have risen to become one of the most popular and one of the “Very Good” entertainment companies in the tri-state area. We would like to say we’re the best, but we’ll leave that compliment to our customers and reviewers!
